The Learning Enhanced Watershed Assessment System (LEWAS) integrates hardware and software components to develop learning modules and opportunities for water sustainability education and research. This unique Research to Practice lab is an outcome of a PhD dissertation in EngE department and was motivated by a LabVIEW instructional unit in our freshman engineering course. Research in this lab has been supported by various grants from the NSF under programs such as Department-Level Reform, TUES, and REU Site. College of Engineering, ICTAS, and EngE have provided funding for the lab. In addition to freshman engineering courses, this lab has been used in Hydrology, Urban Hydrology, Civil Engineering Measurements, Water Resources Engineering (all in civil engineering) and Data Structures class in CS. Finally, this lab is actively used in engineering courses at Virginia Western Community College, Roanoke.
