Engineering Education Now Accepting Applications for a limited number of Spring 2019 Full Time Graduate Teaching Assistantships (20hr/wk).  Review of applications will begin on Thursday 12/27/18. Submit your application by 5pm EST on Wednesday 12/26/18 for full consideration.

Minimum Requirements

  • Enrolled in College of Engineering and pursuing MS, MEng or PhD degree and have completed at least one semester (12 credits) of graduate-level course work in an engineering discipline at Virginia Tech.

  • Interest in teaching first-year engineering students

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Fluency in MATLAB and have experience with CAD (SolidWorks)

  • Teaching and meeting availability as described below

Desirable Qualifications (please highlight in your cover letter):

  • Previous VT employment

  • Knowledge of contemporary issues in engineering such as sustainability, globalization, emerging technologies, use of classroom technology

  • Industry experience

  • Curriculum development experience

For Spring 2019, GTAs will be assigned to work with one or more faculty to help teach two sections of EngE1216, a second semester course for first year students.  The available sections meet back to back on Tuesday and Thursday:

  • 8:00-9:15 and then from 9:30-11:00AM, or

  • 2:00-3:15 and then from 3:30-4:45 PM.  

Each section will have approximately 72 students.  Responsibilities may include grading, assisting with in-class activities, helping to created classroom and homework assignments, holding office hours, and attending course related content and pedagogy meetings (~1hr/week).  

You must be available for teaching team meetings on 1/9/19 and 1/14/19.  

Selected candidates will be interviewed by phone on 1/2/19.
