Step 1: Complete the change of major requirements

Step 2: Review the engineering application timeline (above)
Step 3: Review your unofficial transcript on Hokie Spa to verify completion of all required coursework.
Step 4: Submit unofficial transcript for proof of transfer credit if you are expecting transfer credit for any change of major course(s) and it is not displayed on your VT unofficial transcript.
Step 5: Submit a change of major application:
- To declare a primary engineering major: Change of Major Application (Undergraduate) in Hokie Spa
- To add a secondary engineering major: College of Engineering Secondary Major Application
Step 6: (for non-engineering students only) Complete the College of Engineering Internal Transfer essay questions.

The College of Engineering will host multiple information sessions throughout the academic year for non-engineering students to learn about the process of becoming eligible to apply for an engineering major.
After attending a “Non-Engineering Information Session”, students are assigned an engineering advisor to assist with additional application questions and planning.

Change of major decisions may be appealed using the College of Engineering Change of Major Appeals Petition. Appeals are for addressing unusual and extenuating circumstances that occured while at Virginia Tech which caused you to be denied admission to an engineering major. Students wishing to appeal their decision must submit the appeal petition through Canvas according to the deadlines below.
