Meet the team
Robin Ott
Interdisciplinary Programs Administrator
As an engineer, Robin Ott spent 20 years in industry before joining Virginia Tech in 2015 to coordinate the capstone senior design program in mechanical engineering. In 2023 she joined the Department of Engineering Education, where she helps run the interdisciplinary capstone program. Robin has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in engineering education from Purdue University.

Marie Paretti
Interdisciplinary Capstone Instructor
Marie Paretti is a professor of engineering education at Virginia Tech, where she directs the Virginia Tech Engineering Communications Center. She received a B.S. in chemical engineering and an M.A. in English from Virginia Tech, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on engineering professional development, including the school-to-work transition, communication, teamwork, and professional identity.

David Gray
Interdisciplinary Projects Course Coordinator
David Gray completed both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech. In an industry role, he worked with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, computer scientists, technicians, and stakeholders to bring a host of novel technologies to DOD, NASA, and commercial customers. Dr. Gray is well-versed in ideation, proposal generation, project and program management, and leading engineering teams, and he is keen to bring this professional experience to the classroom to help mentor the next generation of engineering professional.
